Lucy is not moving around much and panting continuously. Difficult to get her out of her crate but is alert. I gave her her non steroidal this morning and pain med this afternoon. Maybe I am not giving her enough pain meds. Her incision is clean and healing well so I do not feel she is infected. Any thoughts on the panting?
Six days in is still REALLY early. Most dogs don’t do much more than get up to eat and go to the bathroom for the first week. Many, many members on here have said that pain meds (Tramadol especially) make their dogs pant, although Zeus did not have that reaction. Panting can also be a sign of pain. Maybe the strain of all this is just now catching up to her? (you know how when you overdo it at the gym, but it takes a couple of days for the real soreness to hit?) If you’re not sure a call to the vet would be in order – you did just pay them a lot of money and I’m sure they expect some follow-up questions and concerns.
I agree. It would be worth talking to your vet. It could be pain meds causing the panting or pain causing it. Hard to know.
When Sweetpea came home for surgery and she has only stopped panting, when she is sleeping. At first- I thought she had to be in pain and medicated her almost into a coma and she still was panting:) Funny thing it was a combo of medication, it is too humid, too hot (even though she is in the house) or food change. I have grown use to it and then the other day she had a tough night and wasnt panting at all and I didnt sleep all night- cause I was worried about her:) hugz to Lucy!!!
I agree. Call the vet and ask them their opinion. If you could take her temperature first, that will be helpful. Good luck to you and beautiful Lucy.
