Not sure why they call this therapy…I guess in the long run it is, but the first dose of Carboplatin has left Lucy in a exhausted stupor. She is awake but just laying in her crate. She did go out to pee but did not want to eat this morning. I hope this only last a day or so. She was bouncing back from surgery so well. I guess that I have not yet wrapped my head around the cancer thing. She must feel so bad. My other poodle Ginger knows that she does not feel well and is a such a loss without Lucy leading the way.
Carboplatin can do that to a pooch. Max wasn’t super lethargic during his treatments, but he would skip meals. On a personal note, I also had carboplatin a couple years ago, and I can confirm you do get very tired and food just doesn’t seem real appealing. I did eat, but that was only because I knew I had to; I didn’t want to. Hope that helps. Max would usually get back to “normal” about 48 – 72 hours after the treatment. Hang in there Lucy!
Please try not to worry too much, lethargy is a very common side effect of chemotherapy. Plus, it is a very exciting and new experience for her. Just make sure she’s drinking enough so she doesn’t get dehydrated and keep her comfortable.
I thought for sure I saw that side effect with Hunter after his 1st round of chemo. I agree, why do they call it therapy? What kind of therapy involves an IV of awful stuff?
Hang in there and hopefully she’ll improve each day… she should feel more like herself again soon.
Hang in there. I’m sure Lucy will start to feel better within a few days but if she doesn’t or it is worrying you too much talk to your vet. Every dog reacts differently to the chemo.
